Lessons Learned: D’Cher of Love Peridot

Women entrepreneurship sharing their truths about running a business. | Imperfect Concepts

Today, I want you to meet D’Cher of Love Peridot located in the Chicago, IL area. Let me just say that when I say I adore D’Cher and what she is doing I mean that. I am super excited for her continued growth as an entrepreneur. Daily she is striving to bring to not only be a better business owner but brightens her customers lives with her amazing pieces she sources herself. If you’re in the Chicago area make sure you stop by the Boss Babe Popup Shop she is one of the vendors.

Why did you start your business? I started my business because I wanted to offer beautiful accessories similar to the ones that I wore (wear) all of the time. People always stop me and say “I love that! Where did you find that?!” I always feel amazing when I wear statement pieces and I wanted to provide other women with that same feeling.

How long have you been in business? I launched my business a year and a half ago in March 2016.

Where are you located? I am located in Chicago.

The biggest obstacle when initially launching? The biggest obstacle for me was just launching period! I was filled with so much fear and so many questions. “What if they don’t like it?” “What if no one supports me?” “What if I fail?” Putting fear to the side and stepping out on faith was so challenging.

If you could start all over again what would you do differently? If I could start over again, I wouldn’t do a thing differently. Everything that happened was due to God’s timing and for a reason.

What area of the startup do people not provide that much information on that you had to dig deeper for? One area that was difficult for me was finding the pieces I wanted. I had no idea where to begin looking for anything.

How much was the initial startup cost for your business? My initial startup cost was about $1.5K including inventory, photography, hosting, website, etc.

What is your favorite thing about being your own boss? The fact that I am a BOSS is everything! It gives me a feeling like no other knowing I started this ish and I’m doing this ish all on my own!

Do you have a community that surrounds you? If so, how do you find these amazing people? I do! I get emotional thinking about the community that surrounds me. They are amazing and most of them I’ve never even met in person. I have an internet community that I met via Tasha my former consultant and the rest here in Chicago from church, as well as vending and local networking events.

Did you utilize the services of a consultant, ebooks or eCourse when launching? If so, why was it important for you to do this? I have utilized all of the above and still do. Super grateful that most of my resources were from my consultant. It’s so important as you can NOT do it alone! All of these provide a part of the foundation you will soon build.

Where do you see your business 3 years from now? I see Love Peridot popping up all over the US with some even more amazingly curated beautiful pieces. I see a brick and mortar and giving back to the community in a major way.

What advice would you give a new business owner? Believe in yourself. NEVER quit your daydream. Get a tribe. Be intentional. Pray often. Do YOU. You got this!

Favorite resources for small business owners? My favorite resources for all things small business include GOOGLE ☺, SBA, WBDC, Chicago Urban League, and of course Imperfect Concepts for great content and direction.

Which blogs or podcast are you loving right now? I am loving How I Did it, Being Boss, and Myleik Teele’s podcasts these days. My favorite and only blog I have read recently is norealjewelry.com. She gives good fashion and inspiration.

How can we support you to help you grow your business? Support to me means genuinely doing so from your heart. A share, a retweet, a repost, a mention or a purchase all mean the world to me!
