Millions of women are wanting to launch businesses this year. Seven years ago, launching an online business was a greater task than most people might assume. I always share with people high end designers were not even using their own websites. One serious issues that women are running into when launching however, is the actual plan. As I consult an average of 15 women of a month with ICB Consults, I notice most are just taking huge leaps with no actually thought out plan on how to achieve everything. This is the very dangerous part because you become really overwhelmed very quickly.
In this How To Make four part series, I have covered $35,000 in sales and $50,000 in sales thus far. Today, we are taking a leap up to making $75,000 in sales a year which is a dream for a lot of small business owners who want to quit their 9 to 5 in order to pursue their dreams. For almost two years I was stuck between $50,000 and $75,000 in sales a year. When you break a financial cap it motivates you to go to the next level. Finally, I will share how you can achieve $100,000 or more in sales a year for your small business.
One of my favorite thing to do is work with people one on one to help them understand how to grow or launch their businesses. Next favorite thing would be to host workshop were I am able to help a group of people at one time comprehend what is going on in their business and how they can fix it. Hosting workshop has become the new style conference for entrepreneurs or future business owners who want to learn. They are easy to attend most times you can find them locally without having to spend thousands of dollars.
Raise your hand if you feel that your plate is running over and you just don’t have time to do anything productive to help your business grow. I will assume a majority raised your hand while reading this and trust me I completely understand why you feel that way about your business. Most new and existing business owners have control issue and rather be stressed out then allow someone else to work on their baby. Honestly, I don’t think its the cost that bothers them but relinquishing control to someone else. Today, lets talk about several small investments that can help you automate your business.
People love to say everything has been invented under the sun and there are no new business out there. Several companies such as Uber, Airbnb, Rent The Runway, The Bouq and many more have proven there is a plethora of business models out there to be discovered. However, if the industry you are trying to launch in or currently in is very oversaturated and you’re trying to figure out how to maneuver through the over-saturation in the industry and stand out can be some work.
Last month, I shared with you how to make $35,000 in sales a year and you can read how to make $75,000 in sales a year too now. I created this series solely because I know so many small business owners who are overwhelmed by the numbers. Which is truly understandable. Running the numbers and hitting the numbers can cause extra amount of stress when trying to achieve your dreams.
One of the greatest advantages you have and I have as relevantly unknown companies is being able to test out new ideas with our audiences and finding out what sticks. So many times, I hear people say “I wish I was making more money” or “If only I had a bigger audience.” Then will mention how things are just not going right with their business and they need to figure everything out. This is the prime reason you need to be the totorise not the hare when it comes to your business.
One of the proudest moments in business is when clients use to email me and say it felt like Christmas morning when they received orders for me. Before I knew about cellophane sealable bags, I was buying cellophane wrap from The Container Store and wrapping each order up and including ribbon. I wanted my clients to have an experience when shopping with me. Providing my customers with a luxury experience on a small business budget was not hard.
In the last four years of business, I have solely focused on utilizing word of mouth to build my company over paid advertising and marketing strategies. In past years, I experimented with paid advertising on blogs and there was no real return on investment for me as a business owner. Then I started really observing how I as a consumer was buying from “strangers” on the internet and such. Because technically if you don’t know someone they are a stranger, lol.
When I first launched as a resale boutique I knew not a thing about running an online business. I basically winged it, something I would not advice anyone to do actually. There are too many resources out there to help guide individuals through the process of launching a business. In recent years, I have become very aware of small business from understanding and being well-versed in the terms of startup tech to terms used in the ecommerce space.
Today, I want to talk to you about my favorite thing in the whole world after buying shoes. That is email marketing, specifically doing it on Mailchimp. When I first started my business I was using another email marketing provider that got bought out. They were great when they were a small team but all things changed. So, I jumped shipping and swam over to Mailchimp.
A few of my favorite things to do during the holidays outside of going to see the lights displayed on homes and going to the ballet, are shopping trunk shows, farmer’s markets, and local businesses. If you own an online store, this is the perfect time to actually get in front of your customer base. Interact with them so they can put a face to the company.
