Wow, another month has ended and we are now well into fall. This year has gone by so fast, but I am very happy how the end of the year is turning out. If you read my earlier end of the month recaps (here and here), you can see I have some rocky months behind me. They have blown by and I have really stepped up to the plate in September.
Some time ago, I shared business tips and insight on pricing for profit via instagram. I also talked about bringing your business to Instagram. There was overwhelming response to what I said in those past posts, and I lost several followers because of them. I would much rather be honest about business life than sugar coat it. If you want to hear sugar coated advice about business, there are thousands of sites and millions of people who will give it to you; I however, choose to take the road less traveled. But wait, there’s more!

Launching my blog www.hustleandheels.com to represent everything that my mother taught me growing up and what she continues to teach me today. I know everyone did not have that in their childhood. I created Hustle & Heels because I meet lots of women who are passionate about their businesses, but who can feel isolated, confused, & lost. Hustle & Heels is a way of bringing women in business together, to share our business passions and to support, encourage and learn from each other. Society needs more of that. But wait, there’s more!
Recently, I shared several images on Instagram from magazines I was reading while in Barnes & Nobles. One of my followers responded,
“Keep it coming!! I had a rough day yesterday, so your posts have been encouraging me to keep pressing on. Today, I woke up with a whole new attitude, and your posts keep confirming what I must do! Thank You!!”
As soon as I read those words, I knew I had to call her. I sent her a DM to call me with my number. I even joked that I normally do not give out my number even though it is listed everywhere for my business. I am very accessible person, and there is a reason behind that. There is no guarded surface behind my success story, but I still have to watch out for the dangers of giving my number to strangers. I knew from this person’s posts, however, that she was someone I must talk to. But wait, there’s more!
Normally, (two days before the end of the month) I have already written my month in review post. With only a couple of days left, I am currently sitting in my bed eating sour patch kids and reflecting on the month of July. To be honest, the first week was rather rough as far as my personal life goes. I’m still dealing with the falling-in-love-and-getting-heart-broken thing. Rather, the still-in-love-but-single thing, all while running two businesses and trying to maintain a regular life.
To help me through this time, I have been working harder than I normally do. For the month of June, I was off and I’m not afraid to admit that. I didn’t meet my sales goals, and I just didn’t feel like doing anything productive. July is the store’s anniversary and my birthday month. With that in mind, I am putting everything back on track.
Write It Down, Make It Happen was the perfect book to read after reading Every Day A Friday. One of the things mentioned at the end of Every Day a Friday, was that he kept a compliment folder. He started it when he first took over his father’s church. Henriette, within her first chapters, talks about how she has a compliment file too! They both complimented each other so well, that I deem them both must-reads. But wait, there’s more!
Over the last several years, I have heard the praises of The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz. During this time, so much was going on in my life that I just kept forgetting to read the book and truly understand the greatness that Don Miguel Ruiz shares with his readers. Last year when I was in Atlanta, I tried reading it and all I could do was get through the first three pages–that’s it. Now that my mind is in the right place, it is the perfect book to read in order to get my life aligned.
The book talks about four agreements we make with our lives. According to Ruiz, first, people begin as truly free individuals– children go with the flow and rely less on what society tells them. One of the stories Ruiz shares is of a little girl that is playing and singing until her mom comes home and tells her that her voice is ugly. From that point on, the little girl believes she can not sing. This “agreement” is then set in her mind forever. To truly become free again, one must break these negative agreements we have made with ourselves. I will not share the actual agreements listed in the book because I want you to actually pick up the book (it truly helps to move your life to the place where all your dreams can become true). This book goes on my list of “best books,” along with The Alchemist
, Rubies in the Orchard , Chasing Cool, and The Secret.

Thanks of the Month: Thanks go to my beautiful friend Katrice for giving me motivation even when she doesn’t realize it. She is truly an amazing woman that inspires me daily. We have the best laughs on twitter, instagram, email, phone or text. You would never know we have known each other for only two years. Heck, someone told her they thought I was her best friend solely based on how we interact on twitter. *Ha* She is amazing, and I’m utterly grateful God has placed her in my life. She makes me want to be a better version of myself daily.
You cant imagine my excitement when I logged onto Instagram and saw that Toya Wright, owner of Garb Shoetique, rocking the Faux Leather Camo Jacket I sent her earlier this month. I have sent other celebs the same jacket, but none of them wore it. I have so much joy in this moment. Get your Faux Leather Camo Jacket now before they sell out.
You’ve been thinking about an idea for a long time, and you just can’t shake it. The thought and vision that is being produced from this idea means you are ready to start a new chapter in your life–starting a business. According to the SBA, there are over 600,000 small businesses started each year in the United States alone. So, you are not alone in starting a new venture. The real question is if you have what it takes to run a successful, lasting business.
I recently discovered this cool site Done Not Done. The site boasts that they are a to-do list for what you want to do, not what you have to do. The site is an interactive website where you and your friends can share the online movies, music, and books you read. Then, you can check them off and always remember what occurred with the reviews you and your friends have written.
The site also is paired with an awesome iOS app that will help you save and discover more. This site/app is perfect for my life since I am trying to read a book a week. Plus, I think I am going to start dedicating my Saturdays to watching good documentaries and old movies. Last year, I watched several 80’s movies and had a Spike Lee movie marathon. (I love Saturdays).
This is my current vision board that is the first thing I see every morning when I wake up. The bible it says “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie; though it tarry, wait for it ; because it will surely come it will not tarry. ” Habakkuk 2:3 One must have a vision in life on how they want their life to live. Vision boards got a surge when The Secret came out. I recommend reading The Secret and The Power. Both have helped me tremendously.
