Several years ago, when I had an online store I decided to put my PR degree to good use by pitching bloggers to cover my boutique. There was a list of over 50 bloggers across the United States that I reached out to for an interview. Jessica of DSR Apparel was one of those bloggers, and since then she has turned into one of my closest friends. She is brilliant beyond a shadow of a doubt, her gif text game is poppin, and she honestly has a passion for what she is doing.
Today, I would like you to meet Naisha of Brownstone Closets based in South NJ. As I write this introduction I am smiling mainly because over the last three years of working with Naisha I have seen her dream flourish on her own terms. She has committed to growing her dreams on her terms which is an amazing thing to watch.
Today, I want you to meet Jessica of No Real Jewelry based out of Chicago, IL. Funny story, I always saw D’Cher of Love Peridot tweeting Jessica on Twitter and I was like who is this person. You know we are all types of nosy in real life. Well, I immediately followed her and it’s been one of the best decisions ever. Jessica is amazing inside and out on all levels. I love reading her blog, newsletter and following her social media. She is a true go-getter.
Today, I want you to meet D’Cher of Love Peridot located in the Chicago, IL area. Let me just say that when I say I adore D’Cher and what she is doing I mean that. I am super excited for her continued growth as an entrepreneur. Daily she is striving to bring to not only be a better business owner but brightens her customers lives with her amazing pieces she sources herself. If you’re in the Chicago area make sure you stop by the Boss Babe Popup Shop she is one of the vendors.
Today, I want you to meet Latoya of Sarah & Jessie boutique located in the Jacksonville, NC area. I meet Latoya online a couple years ago, and I am completely smitten by her tenacity, strength, family values and much more. Love that she mentions how her local community college has been a great resource for her business.
There are a plethora of things I have learned in the last decade of my life. I would say in the last three years, I have learned even more about myself when it comes to growing and becoming a better person. Adulting is a real thing that when we were kids were completely obviously too. Our parents were the glue that held everything together for us making sure that all the bills were paid, a roof over our heads and other things were taken care of. Today, I want to share five investments you need to make monthly for yourself.
One of the hardest things about having an online business is finding customers to shop or support your business. We all know there are millions of companies like yours or similar. However, most times small business owners are looking at the same marketing playbook that other ones are looking at too. Instead, I want you to tap into your local community to turn those people into customers for your business. Last month, I talked about obtaining one percent of the local community as a revenue stream, but today I want to go even further on how to find these local customers.
Running a small business can be incredibly hard and lonely at times. This is one of the reasons for establishing Business Bestie. Allowing business owners to connect all over the world, but bring it locally when they need a friend who understands and more. Last year, I wrote and shared video content on how if your small business obtains 1% of your local towns support what it could do for your company. I am working on a cool project that solely focuses on obtaining 1% of my local market to grow my business. One percent of my local market is 1,360 people. Take the average sales order and multiple it by your cities one percent. Let me give you a quick example if your city population is 500,000; one percent is 5000 and your shirt company average sales order is $50 that equates $250,000 solely focusing on your local presence. Now, let’s break down how you can establish a local presence for your online business.
Yes, I am a serious kick to help small business owners see the importance of growing their local brand. Too many times I hear how can I achieve such big feats with no accolades to back it up. Everyone wants to scale their business globally but so many people are missing the goldmine of growing their business locally.
I personally believe behind every successful businesses owner or entrepreneur is a community of believers who has helped them go higher in ways most people never understand. Running a business is not for the faint of heart and if you’re really trying to build something great you have a really different outlook than most. In recent, years I have really honed in what I am trying to do with my life. In addition to that, I only associate with people who want to better their lives. I cannot entertain people who are okay with being mediocre. One of the promises in the bible I stand on is;
..And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; And I will bless those who bless you… Genesis 12:2-3
Being a small business owner is one tough job and you really don’t know that until you are in the thick of it. As always it is nothing like what you see in the movies or on tv. Heck, it doesn’t even look like what people stage on social media. Yes, there are amazing days that make you jump for joy especially when your business is flourishing, but then there are days you want to stay in bed and crawl into a deep hole and never come out of.
