I never thought, as a business owner, that I would have to play the bad guy. To be honest, I didn’t think running a business would be anything like it is. Movies and TV shows give a skewed version of the business world. It’s not an over night success: inventory gets messed up, fiscal backing is not free, and customers will drive you nuts (hey, I am being honest, imagine the emails I get).
Etsy has become a slight obsession of mine. I spend countless hours on their window shopping and buying things from small business owners. You can virtually buy anything you need on Etsy. Etsy just announced partnership with Nordstrom to go along with the Etsy Wholesale divison (Awesome!). I love that small business owners are getting the chance to grow their business more while continuing to reach a bigger audience. Some Etsy business owners are also in West Elm, which goes to show that dreams do come true. Woohooo!!! Today I wanted to showcase some of my favorite vendors from the site with you:

I have said it over and over that my goal this year is to lend more support to small businesses. You might be tried of hearing about it, but there might be someone who is just as excited as I am–someone who wants to support more small businesses too. I actually made a “Small Business Buy” List. It helps me keep track of brands and companies that I want to support. Here are some of the businesses I supported this month:
When people tell me that they run a business, the first thing I do is Google them to find their site. Your site is a key component in your business. If you run a business, having a website is a must-have in the technology based world we live in. Consumers are shopping more and more on the internet and on their mobile devices. There are some businesses that are still in the dark ages who think they don’t need a website or to use social media, but they’re wrong. Potential and current customers need a means to connect with you. Being that Imperfect Concepts is an online boutique, my only choice is to have a website.
In the last year or so since I have been on the pursuit of shopping small, I have noticed a high percentage of small businesses that don’t have a fully functional website. Rather, their site is all over the place. One of the first things about your website should’t be a video of Beyonce singing Halo, especially if you’re not a music site. Wix is not a suitable website either. At the start-up of your business, spend the extra time and customize your site!
